Harlem Renaissance
The Harlem Renaissance was a cultural movement that spanned the 1920s and 1930s. At the time, it was known as the "New Negro Movement", named after the 1925 anthology by Alain Locke. It took place around the city of Harlem in New York. The birth of Jazz happened during this time and created a new style of music. The art and literature that was created by African Americans lifted up the race.
Flappers
Clara Bow was an imfamous Flapper during the 1920's
"Flappers" was a term for women in the 1920's who took on a different look and wore short skirts, bobbed their hair, and listened to jazz. They would step outside lines of what was considered acceptable behavior during that time. Flappers would openly smoke, drink, and talk about sex.
